Are you providing care and assistance for a spouse, relative, friend or grandchild (or other relative child)? Do you have questions or problems for which you need information? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities and wonder if there is help available?
The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) was established by the 2000 amendment to the federally-funded Older American’s Act of 1965. The program helps to reduce the stress of caregiver by offering basic services to three types of caregivers.
Caregivers eligible for assistance
- An adult family member or other individual, who is a provider of care to an individual over the age of 60 or to someone with dementia of any age;
- A family caregiver (not parent) of a disabled adult;
- A grandparent or other relative who live with, are raising and caring for children under the age of 18.

Services provided
- Information to caregivers about available community services;
- Assistance to caregivers in gaining access to the services;
- Individual counseling;
- Respite care to enable caregivers to temporarily be relieved from their duties; and
- Supplemental services, on a limited basis, to complement the caregiver’s services.

NOTE: Every caregiver of persons who are aging or disabled are welcome to contact the Family Caregiver Program for information, attend educational programs and support groups. The only services that require that you meet the requirements listed above are those of respite and supplemental services.

Area IV is a member of the Alzheimer’s Care Coalition, an organization dedicated to caregiver/family education regarding Alzheimer’s Disease or other related dementia. Area IV also works closely with the Indiana Alzheimer’s Association .
