Weatherization
 By weatherizing your home, you can save money on your utility bills. For persons with lower income, Area IV provides a weatherization service to help ease the strain of energy bills in difficult times.
Is this Program for Me?

Area Served: Carroll, Clinton, Tippecanoe and White counties
(CAP of Western Indiana provides similar services in Benton, Fountain, Montgomery and Warren counties.) See "Contact Us" to find the hours and phone number for the office in your county.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet 200% poverty guidelines (see table below).
  • Homes may be owner occupied or rental units with landlord permission.
  • Contact the Energy Assistance Program at Area IV.

  2012 Guidelines 

 

What is it?

The weatherization program is a program of the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and State Weatherization Efficiency Enhancement Program (SWEEP) that aims to conserve energy while saving money by cutting utility bills.

  • Energy audits include:
    • Health and safety measures in order to ensure the security of the occupants
    • General heat waste reduction activities including blower door directed air sealing, water heater system treatment, furnace tune up and installation of compact fluorescent bulbs
    • Client education
    • Evaluation, repair and possible replacement of furnace, water heater, cook stoves, refrigerators for homeowners
    • Sealing of major air leaks including bypasses and structural leaks
    • Insulating side walls and attics in site-built homes and bellies in mobile homes.
    • Insulating box sill, foundation and ducts
    • Minor air sealing

Applicants must provide the following information:

Information Needed:

  • Name, birth dates, and Social Security cards for all household members.
  • Income for all household members age 18 or older for the past 12 months.
  • Copy of lease or proof of home ownership
  • If applicable, legal divorce or separation papers
  • Current heat and electric utility bills
  • Additional information may be required on a case by case basis
  • More information on required documents

If your home was weatherized before October 1, 1994 you may be eligible again. When you reapply, you must submit current versions of the above information.
