This is a program of the Community Action Agencies. Community Action’s intent with their programs is to assist people in becoming self-sufficient. Therefore, this program is temporary to assist the person/family toward that goal.
Areas Served: Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Tippecanoe, Warren, & White Counties.
Persons who are in danger of being homeless or those who have recently lost their home (not those who are chronically homeless) may be able to receive assistance in order to help stabilize their situations. Examples are:
Persons who are currently homeless (lack a fixed, regular, or adequate night time residence) are:
- Sleeping in an emergency shelter (this includes transitional housing for mentally ill)
- Sleeping in a place not fit for human habitation (cars, parks, abandoned buildings, streets, etc)
- Staying in a hospital or other institution for up to 180 days but was sleeping in an emergency shelter/place not meant for human habitation immediately prior to hospital or institution entry
- Victims of domestic violence
Or persons who are in danger of becoming homeless:
- through eviction or being kicked out of a shared residence
- due to threat of foreclosure
- due to fleeing domestic violence or elder abuse
- due to sudden loss of income making it impossible to pay housing costs
- living in a hotel/motel
- persons graduating from or timing out of transitional housing programs
This assistance could include payment of rent and/or utilities. Each situation is different and enrollees in the program may not receive the same type of assistance depending on their need. Income guidelines are: 50% Area Median Income (less than $21,210/yr. depending on county lived in).
To apply for the program, Community Agencies must refer individuals/families with whom they have already established case management.
