Area IV Agency is the Indiana Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for our region in Indiana. We are given the responsibility from the state to manage nutrition services for older adults under state and federal sources.
Area IV Agency provides a nutritional assessment for each person requesting home-bound meals. The person is re-assessed annually if eligible. The assessment determines both level of need and nutritional risk. A Registered Dietitian is our Nutrition Coordinator who does this as well as coordinates services with our contractor, Mid-Land Meals (MLM). She also approves menus so they meet federal dietary standards. She consults on special meals for diabetic adults and those with special needs.
Eligibility
- Any adult over age 60 who
- Lives in one of the 8 counties served by Area IV and has
- A disability or circumstance that makes it difficult to leave home.

Other Services
For clients at nutritional risk, we offer individualized nutritional counseling. Nutritional education is also offered to all participants.
Congregate sites are especially important for daily socialization and encouraging older adults to engage in activities. This prolongs both mental and physical health.
Our meal provider, Mid-Land Meals, may have other private pay meal options available. Contact them at 765-477-7189 or 800-466-7189.
Funding
The Older Americans Act (Title III) provides the majority of funding for the nutrition program. Other sources may include Medicaid Waiver through the federal government and CHOICE funding through the state of Indiana. Clients may also privately pay for additional meals.
This is not a free program. The full requested donation for a meal is $4.25. If your income is under $1000 a month, the requested donation is less. No one of age 60 or older will be refused a meal if they can not contribute toward the cost.
