Supplemental Services

Services Provided by the Family Caregiver Program

The following services are available:

Respite:

Respite is defined as a short break. In the case of caregivers, it’s a short break from caring for the loved one – perhaps to take a few hours out for shopping, or lunch with friends, or a support group meeting.The caregiver can select from approved vendors to provide a home health aid or a homemaker or a sitter. Services can be provided at home or at an approved respite care provider.

Supplemental Services

(includes, but is not limited to the following):
  • HOME REPAIRS: for the care recipient’s home. Services include anything needed to assist the caregiver in caring for the client/child/grandchild. Examples include minor home repairs, ramp, hot water heater, etc. The care recipient must own the home. Rentals will not be considered.
  • EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES: includes anything needed to assist the caregiver in caring for the client. Examples include a bedside commode, Depends, nutritional supplements, Emergency Response System.
  • GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN: Examples of services are: purchasing school supplies, counseling with a therapist, support groups which deal with coping strategies, conference fees and childcare.

Individual Counseling and Training:

Instruction about treatment regimens and use of equipment specified in the care plan.

Examples:

  1. Bathing people who have had strokes,
  2. Exercises for people who have severe arthritis,
  3. Cooking meals for people with diabetes,
  4. Managing the stress of caregiving

To apply for these services, contact the Information and Assistance Dept. at 765-447-7683 or 800-382-7556. The personnel will talk with you about your personal caregiving situation — your loved one’s health, your health, and your needs. If you qualify, a referral for the program will be taken. Once the referral is taken, a case manager will come to your home to talk with you and your care recipient about the types of help that you need in order to lesson the stress of caregiving. The case manager will then assist you by authorizing those services.
