Another Successful People and Paws Event

04Apr

On March 23, 2024, Saturday, the second People and Paws: Happy and Healthy Together event was held at the Area IV Agency offices in Lafayette. This is a partnership between Animal Advocates of Greater Lafayette and Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action Programs.

Participating partners included over 50 volunteers from Banfield Pet Hospital (West Lafayette); Tippecanoe Animal Hospital, Wildcat Valley Animal Clinic; Petsburgh Pet Care; Shelter Animal Medicine Program and the Shelter Animal Medicine Club at the College of Veterinary Medicine (Purdue); the School of Nursing and the Nursing Center for Family Health (Purdue); and Cause for Paws, a Purdue student organization. The event is partially funded by a Banfield Foundation® Community Care Grant, along with donations of supplies, space, and time.

Low-income seniors and disabled individuals struggle to provide basic veterinary care for their pets and often must choose between the purchase of food, medications, or animal care. This event is an opportunity for those pets to receive vaccines and well checks at no cost. Senior’s pets are often their closest companions and supports wellness, and self-sufficiency.

This event provided veterinarian care for 60+ cats and dogs, saving low-income individuals approximately $24,000; and 20 human well checks at around $4,000; additionally, 50 volunteers donated their time to this cause valued at $7,663 in In-Kind hours.

Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action Programs, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization working to inspire hope and spark positive change in the lives of those we serve and the communities where we live. Founded in 2019, Animal Advocates of Greater Lafayette is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to improve companion animal and human lives in the Greater Lafayette community through education, advocacy, and innovation.
