WEATHERIZATION
Area IV Agency Notice to Bidders
In concert with its mission to promote self-sufficiency and self-reliance among its clients, Area IV Agency performs weatherization services on the residences of eligible clients. The principal objective of this activity is to remediate safety issues associated with household appliances (stoves, water heaters, and furnaces) and to improve the energy efficiency of homes which, in turn, reduces the energy cost to the household.
Working with dollars from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the agency Weatherization staff:
- Conducts energy audits of the residences of eligible clients to determine whether and where energy savings might be gained
- Identifies safety issues with stoves, water heaters, and furnaces which must be remediated
- Assigns the work to qualified contractors
- Inspects the contractors’ work to ensure safety and energy savings
The weatherization activities performed by the contractors may involve such things as blowing insulation into attics and/or walls; sealing ductwork; insulating crawl spaces. Depending upon the results of inspection and testing, the scope of work could include the repair or replacement of water heaters or furnaces.
